ZACC Adopts Rights-Based Approach

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has outlined a rights-based approach to combat corruption, emphasizing the protection of human dignity as a foundation for stronger governance and public trust. According to Acting Executive Secretary Charity Matumbi, ZACC's presentation highlights several key areas of focus.

ZACC has submitted draft legislation to the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to safeguard anonymity, create protection centers, and ensure safe reporting channels for whistleblowers. The commission also aims to ensure policy processes reflect the perspectives of underrepresented communities, promoting inclusivity in the fight against corruption.

ZACC is developing proposals for legal, emotional, and financial assistance to help victims pursue justice and recover from the impact of corruption. Community theater, local media, and civil society partnerships will be used to educate communities about corruption and its effects.

Charity Matumbi stated that "protecting dignity isn’t just a moral imperative, it’s the foundation for stronger governance, public trust, and an inclusive fight against corruption." This approach underscores ZACC's commitment to building a robust anti-corruption framework.

By strengthening Zimbabwe's laws to comply with global anti-corruption conventions, ZACC is working to enhance the country's commitment to fighting corruption.
