The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has urged the private sector to increase investments in renewable energy and sustainable practices to safeguard Zimbabwe’s economy from the growing threats of climate change.
Speaking at the 2025 Midlands Show Exhibitors Business Conference in Gweru on Thursday, Deputy Minister Rajeshkumar Indukant Modi — standing in for the Minister — emphasised the urgent connection between environmental stewardship and economic stability.
“As the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, we are aware of the vital intersection between our economic activities and the environment,” he said.
“We are witnessing first-hand how climate change disrupts our industries and commerce, jeopardising stability.”
Modi called on industry players to adopt resilience-driven investments, particularly in renewable energy, as part of national efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
“I call upon the private sector to step up and play a pivotal role in investing in sustainable practices,” he said.
The Ministry is also promoting grassroots engagement to empower local communities and ensure climate resilience strategies benefit all sectors of society.
Held under the theme “Climate Change Resilience: Smart and Sustainable Futures”, the conference brought together exhibitors, industry leaders, and policymakers to explore ways of integrating climate-smart solutions into Zimbabwe’s economic growth plans.
