A 24-year-old tout from Hopely has appeared in court facing assault charges after allegedly striking a commuter in the mouth with a stone, knocking out two teeth during a violent altercation at a Harare bus rank.

Prince Taderera, of Hopely Zone 1, appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court charged with assault.

The State alleges that on August 8, at around 9pm, at the corner of Chinhoyi Street and Fidel Castro Road in Harare, the complainant boarded a commuter omnibus.

At the time, Taderera was reportedly engaged in a heated dispute with other touts at the rank.

He allegedly picked up a stone and, in a sudden outburst, struck the complainant in the mouth while the latter was seated inside the vehicle.

The complainant sustained severe mouth injuries, including the loss of two teeth. The matter was reported to the police, leading to Taderera’s arrest.
