Legal counsel Dr. Sande-Kamanga has stated on X that former government minister Dr. Walter Mzembi, currently detained at Harare Remand Prison, is unwell and has been admitted to the prison hospital.

"We hope he is released soon so he can receive the necessary treatment," Dr. Sande-Kamanga said in a social media post.

Mzembi, a former tourism minister and key member of the G40 political faction that backed Grace Mugabe during the final days of Robert Mugabe’s presidency, was arrested earlier this year on charges including abuse of office and money laundering. He had spent several years in self-imposed exile in South Africa before recently returning to Zimbabwe.

Other prominent G40 figures remain outside the country. Former Higher Education Minister Prof. Jonathan Moyo and ex-Indigenization Minister Patrick Zhuwao are believed to be living in Kenya and South Africa, respectively. Former Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere attempted a presidential bid in 2023 but is also in exile, reportedly fearing arrest if he returns.

Meanwhile, former Finance Minister Ignatius Chombo and ex-Tourism and Environment Minister Prisca Mupfumira—also linked to G40—faced corruption charges and long stays in remand prison before their cases ended as damp squibs with health issues cited.
