President Emmerson Mnangagwa has emphasized the importance of education in transforming lives, promoting economic growth, and fostering social development. Speaking at the ED-UNZA golf prize dinner held at State House in Harare, the President highlighted the critical role education plays in shaping the future of individuals and the nation.
The ED-UNZA Scholarship Trust, established by President Mnangagwa in 2019, aims to provide access to education for underprivileged but gifted students. The trust has been instrumental in supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue their academic dreams. During the fundraising dinner, over US$600,000 was raised, further solidifying the trust's mission.
The ED-UNZA Scholarship Trust has made a significant impact since its inception, supporting students in various fields of study, including law, medicine, and sciences. The trust's efforts have not only improved the lives of individual students but also contributed to the development of a skilled workforce capable of driving Zimbabwe's economic growth.
President Mnangagwa's commitment to education is rooted in his personal experience. Having been denied formal education during his time in prison, he was fortunate to receive support from well-wishers, which enabled him to pursue his law degree. This experience has driven his passion for education and his desire to give back to the community.
The President's call for continued support from corporates and philanthropists underscores the importance of collective effort in promoting education. By working together, we can create a brighter future for Zimbabwe's youth and empower them to contribute to the country's development.
The ED-UNZA Scholarship Trust has raised over US$1.5 million since its inception, supporting 50 students and covering tuition fees, boarding fees, and living allowances.
