A Harare woman this week approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against her former lover whom she accused of abuse, stalking, and threats of violence.
Vimbai Chikise told the court that her ex-boyfriend, Donald Muchuneti, has been tormenting her since their separation, often showing up at her place of residence uninvited.
“He assaults me and calls me all sorts of names like ‘you are crazy’ and ‘you have bipolar’. He does not allow me to move on and be happy,” she said.
Chikise said Muchuneti stalks and follows her wherever she goes and has completely cut off communication by blocking her on all social media platforms, making it difficult for her to reach out to him for assistance regarding their child.
“He does not take care of our child. Whenever he comes to my house, he does whatever he wants. My landlord is even afraid of him because he once threatened to shoot him,” she said.
She also told the court that Muchuneti has been badmouthing her to friends and relatives, describing her as “toxic” and “a psychopath,” which she said has severely affected her emotional and mental wellbeing.
“I once suffered from depression because of the things he says about me to other people,” she added.
She further alleged that Muchuneti’s relatives, especially his sister, often come to her house and verbally abuse her, despite the two no longer being together.
In response, Muchuneti denied the allegations, claiming that Chikise was the aggressor.
“She is the one who assaults me and calls me names. That’s the reason I blocked her. She once dumped the child at my place and we had to go to court for full custody,” he said.
He added that Chikise once jumped over the durawall at his house and caused a scene by shouting and insulting his children.
“She keeps calling and texting me nonstop. I have no peace,” he said.
Magistrate postponed the matter to Thursday, July 24, at 2pm for ruling.
