Gibson Nyakuba of Mandara appeared at the Harare Magistrate’s Court, charged with theft for allegedly abusing a company discount account to pocket over US$16,000 in illicit gains.
Nyakuba, employed as a till operator at Bhola Mega Mart’s Msasa branch, is accused of unlawfully accessing a restricted purchasing account meant exclusively for the company owner, Mr. Arif, under the username "Mr V Vuma."
According to the State, between January 1 and July 19, 2025, Nyakuba offered unsuspecting customers discounts by using the restricted account in exchange for cash "tokens of appreciation." He allegedly processed multiple purchases through the account without the company’s knowledge or approval.
Despite earlier warnings against using the account, Nyakuba reportedly continued the scheme, resulting in a total loss of US$16,383.37.
No funds were recovered.
