BIKITA, Zimbabwe – From June 30th to July 2nd, 2025, the 22nd Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe conducted a significant three-day free medical outreach at the Bikita Minerals clinic, serving over 400 local residents and mine staff.
Demonstrating commitment to supporting Zimbabwe's healthcare access, the team traveled over four hours. They donated essential medicines urgently needed within the mining community and provided vital health services, including blood pressure, blood glucose, and ECG screenings.
A multidisciplinary team, featuring specialists in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and traditional Chinese medicine (including acupuncture and trauma care), offered comprehensive consultations. The CMT also enhanced local medical capacity by training residents in critical first-aid techniques such as CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. Community health education sessions and demonstrations of wellness exercises were also provided.
Recognizing the needs of the most vulnerable, the team visited an 88-year-old homebound patient with chronic conditions for examination and medical advice.
A key demonstration of advanced medical support occurred when three CMT surgeons successfully performed on-site procedures on patients suffering from long-term conditions: chronic Achilles tendonitis, a foot ulcer caused by an embedded foreign object, and a scalp mass causing persistent headaches. These interventions provided immediate relief where local treatment options were limited.
This outreach program directly addressed critical healthcare gaps in a remote part of Zimbabwe. The deployment of specialist skills, donation of medicines, and transfer of medical knowledge represent a tangible contribution by the Chinese Medical Team to Zimbabwe's medical services. Activities like this outreach serve to strengthen the practical cooperation and bonds of friendship between China and Zimbabwe in the field of public health.
