Seven Sentenced in Nationwide Crackdown

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced the conviction of seven individuals for a range of serious offenses, including robbery, fraud, and drug possession, for the week ending June 26, 2025.

The sentences range from six to ten years.

Milton Sebele, 31, was sentenced to eight years in prison for a robbery that took place on January 13, 2025, at a homestead in Village B4, Hopefountain. Sebele, along with three accomplices who are still at large, used machetes to force their way into a house, attacked the occupant, and stole cash and cellphones.

In Eastlea, Beitbridge, 26-year-old Iasac Nhererea was handed a nine-year prison sentence for a robbery committed on March 22, 2025. Nhererea and his accomplice posed as travelers, hired a taxi, and later attacked the driver, stealing the vehicle and valuables.

 

Ashton Benedict, also 26, was convicted for robbery on March 19, 2025, at Zimre Village Flats in Beitbridge. He assaulted the victim before stealing cash and a cellphone. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

ZRP also nabbed Prince Mutero, 43 who received a nine-year sentence for a robbery committed on May 28, 2025, in Amaveni, Kwekwe. Mutero and his accomplices stole USD 1,400.00 from a parked vehicle after attacking the complainant.

Peter Matengahama, 46, was arrested for contravening the Electricity Act Chapter 13:19. He vandalized eight ZETDC transformers and stole copper windings in Chipinge on multiple occasions between May and June 2022. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.

A major fraud case involved Shingirai Cele, 41, who misled a complainant into believing she could supply essential goods including maize meal, sugar, sugar beans, and sanitary pads. The complainant paid USD 67,300.00 for the goods, which were never delivered. Cele was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison.

Obvious Ngwenya, 50, was arrested in Gwanda on May 20, 2025, for unlawful possession of dagga. He was convicted and sentenced to ten years behind bars.
