Two men appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing robbery charges after allegedly attacking a police detective at knifepoint during a late-night incident in Harare.
Elias Tivirima (45) and Ability Sibanda (26) are accused of robbing Detective Sergeant Takunda Karize of CID Property Harare in an attack that occurred on March 27, 2026, at around 1am at a MaSteps bus stop.
Prosecutor Polite Chikiwa told the court that Karize had parked his lime green Toyota Aqua (registration AGW 6320) while waiting for a relative arriving from South Africa when the suspects allegedly struck.

“The accused persons emerged from a bushy area armed with stones, knives and metal objects before smashing the vehicle’s windows,” Chikiwa submitted.
The court heard that the suspects allegedly placed a knife on the complainant’s throat and demanded that he surrender his valuables.
“They threatened the complainant with a knife and forcibly took his belongings,” the prosecutor said.
Items reportedly stolen include three mobile phones — a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, Samsung Galaxy A20 and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 — a wallet containing a police identity card, and US$150 cash.
Following the incident, Karize made a report at Zimbabwe Republic Police Southlea Park.
The accused persons are expected to return to court tomorrow for a bail application as investigations continue.
