A local man who allegedly defrauded a complainant of a Toyota Quantum in a bogus land deal has appeared in court.

Luckson Kurima, 51, of Hatcliffe, appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing fraud charges.

He was granted US$100 bail and is expected back in court on July 16.

According to the State, represented by prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu, Kurima allegedly misrepresented to the complainant sometime in 2023 that he owned a 300-square-metre residential stand in Hatcliffe, Harare.

The complainant then handed over a Toyota Quantum, registration number AFQ 8166, in exchange for the stand.

Kurima allegedly provided the complainant with fake documentation for the property.

The complainant later sold the stand to another person, who discovered that it did not exist.

When the complainant confronted Kurima about the issue, he allegedly took back the paperwork, claiming he would resolve the matter, but never returned.
