The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority  has launched a digitalization roadmap aimed at expanding the national revenue collection base, aligning with the objectives of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2). This strategic move is expected to strengthen revenue mobilization, enhance efficiency, and reduce dependency on external development support.

According to ZIMRA Commissioner General, Ms. Regina Chinamasa, digitalizing operations will enable the authority to capture more firms and individuals in its database, thereby increasing revenue collection. This initiative is crucial in supporting the government's development projects outlined in NDS2. Ms. Chinamasa emphasized that digital solutions will play a vital role in improving tax compliance and transparency.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Chairperson, Honourable Energy Mutodi, highlighted the importance of domestic resource mobilization in sustaining national projects. He noted that domestic revenues are critical in reducing reliance on limited development partner support, ensuring sustainable revenue generation.

ZIMRA has consistently exceeded its tax collection targets, attributed to enhanced compliance, improved tax systems, and the closure of revenue leakage loopholes. As the economy stabilizes, the government is confident that ongoing tax reforms, particularly through digitalization, will yield greater revenue streams to accelerate infrastructural and social development programs.
