Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc has announced the discovery of high-grade gold mineralisation at its Blanket Mine in Zimbabwe, with intercepts reaching as high as 110.22 grams per tonne (g/t), according to results from its latest underground drilling programme.
The results, released Monday, are from a 6,490-metre drilling campaign conducted between January and May 2025. Drilling targeted the Eroica, AR South, and AR Quartz zones at the mine, located in Gwanda, Matabeleland South.
“We are pleased to report encouraging results from the ongoing underground drilling programme at Blanket Mine,” said Chief Executive Officer Mark Learmonth.
“The results from the Eroica zone confirm the extension of the high-grade zone at depth.”
In the Eroica zone, one drill hole intersected 5.04 metres grading 21.84 g/t gold, while another returned 3.57 metres at 16.77 g/t. In the AR South zone, drilling produced intersections of 3.59 metres at 13.76 g/t and 1.21 metres at 17.44 g/t.
The AR Quartz zone yielded the highest grade: 1.16 metres at 110.22 g/t, along with another intersection of 2.06 metres grading 18.44 g/t.
“We are also encouraged by the continued success of the infill drilling programme at AR South and AR Quartz, which continue to yield high-grade intersections,” said Learmonth.
The company said 25 holes were drilled over the five-month period, aimed at upgrading inferred resources to indicated resources and extending known mineralised areas.
“These results provide us with further confidence in the long-term future of the Blanket Mine,” Learmonth added.
“We expect that further drilling in these zones will convert inferred resources to indicated resources and potentially add to our mineral reserves.”
Blanket Mine, 64 percent owned by Caledonia, produced 75,416 ounces of gold in 2024. The company’s 2025 production guidance remains between 74,000 and 78,000 ounces.
