Witness Runodada – Zim Now Reporter

The Zimbabwe national cricket team received a warm welcome upon arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday, ahead of their two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

This tour marks Zimbabwe’s return to Test cricket in Bangladesh after a five-year absence. Their last appearance was in February 2020, when they suffered an innings and 106-run defeat. The upcoming series is not part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle.

The first Test is set to begin on April 20 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, followed by the second Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram starting April 28. Zimbabwe is scheduled to depart Bangladesh on May 3, 2025.

As of now, squads for both teams have not been announced, and no warm-up matches are planned before the series begins.

Zimbabwe has struggled in Test cricket in recent years, with eight losses and two draws in their last ten matches. Their most recent Test victory came in March 2021 against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh will be hoping to improve their home Test record. Their last home Test win came in November 2023 against New Zealand in Sylhet. Since then, they have endured home series defeats, including 2-0 losses to both Sri Lanka and South Africa in 2024.
