Two armed robbers who dressed in Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) uniforms targeted a Mazowe miner and another in Chiweshe appeared before Bindura regional magistrate Amos Mbobo yesterday.
Ronald Chatyora, 30, and Rodwell Chatyora, 34, were charged with robbing the two miners of their pregnant carbons and they were remanded in custody to December 23.
Prosecutor Munyaradzi Katsvairo told the court that on August 11, the two connived with 15 others, who are still at large. They reportedly armed themselves with firearms, machetes, bolt cutter and catapults.
The court heard that they pounced on a miner at Mazowe Valley Mine and threatened to shoot the owner and robbed him of his pregnant carbons.
The suspects allegedly used the same modus operandi at Asakina Minerals Mine, Rosa in Chiweshe.
The victims managed to identify the accused’s gate-away car, a Toyota Hilux Raider registration number AFX 2627 and filed a police report.
The suspects were subsequently arrested in Kwekwe where they had taken the pregnant carbons for processing at the elution plant.
