A police officer based at Bulawayo Central Police Station was granted free bail by Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube.
Macmillian Moyo had appeared before the court facing a theft charge after allegedly siphoning 120 litres of diesel from a parked truck.
Moyo pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court heard that a truck driver, Timoth Gift Kadyamusuma (36), parked his vehicle near his home in Nkulumane suburb at around 9pm and slept in it.
He woke up at 3am the following day and tried to start the vehicle but failed.
On checking the fuel gauge, he discovered that it read empty. He also discovered that the fuel tank cap had been removed and reported the incident at Nkulumane Police Station.
Around 6am on the same day, he noticed fuel drops on the ground leading to Moyo’s house and informed the police.
Detectives went to Moyo’s house and recovered 90 litres of diesel, leading to his arrest.
Moyo will return to court on 8 December for commencement of his trial.
