Man bashes wife over relish

A man from Mpopoma, Bulawayo has been sentenced to four months in prison for smacking his wife over relish.

Roy Ndora (33) pleaded guilty to physical abuse as defined in Section 3(1) (a) and Section 3(1) (b) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16 when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.

Mjanja sentenced Ndora to four months imprisonment with an option of ZWL$30 000 fine.

Ndora also got another wholly suspended 60 days’ imprisonment for malicious damage to property on condition that he compensates his sister US$100 being the value of the rear windscreen of her car which he damaged.

On 12 November at around 8pm, the court heard, Samkele Moyo (31) was at home waiting for her husband to bring relish.

When he arrived, Moyo reportedly asked Ndora about the relish she had been waiting for and he started assaulting her with open hands all over her body.

The court also heard that on 15 November, 2022 at around 7pm, Moyo went to seek refuge at her husband's sister’s home.

Ndora followed and demanded to see her but his sister refused him access after which he became violent and damaged the rear windscreen of her car.

A police report was made, leading to Ndora’s arrest.

Ndora, it also emerged, was a serial abuser who was in the habit of verbally and physically abusing his wife and their child.
