A man who was caught with a cheetah's skin has been remanded in custody and was ordered to appear in court on 5 December for bail application.
Magistrate Dennis Mangosi remanded Talent Mafumba (27) of Southlea Park for contravening Section 128 of the Parks and Wildlife Act Chapter 20:14 “Unlawful possession of a cheetah skin, trophy of a specially protected animal.”
The court heard that on the 13 December, 2021 at Stoneridge Park, Mafumba and his accomplice Amos Chigwedere, who was arrested and is on remand, unlawfully and intentionally kept one cheetah skin in a white sack.
On the same day, detectives from CID Haraee received information that the duo had a cheetah skin. They proceeded to the named place and found the accused and his accomplice with the said cheetah skin.
Detectives requested for a licence from the two, which permitted them to keep the skin, but they failed to produce it. The accused’s accomplice was arrested while the accused managed to flee.
The value of the recovered skin is US$20 000.
