Chatunga Bellamine Mugabe, son of the late former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, has been issued a warrant of arrest after failing to appear in court in Beitbridge on charges of disorderly conduct and possession of a knife.
His lawyer, Muchihwande Forbes Sithole, explained that Chatunga’s absence was due to a medical condition.
“He is hospitalised and doctors said he would be released on Friday.
"We expect on Monday he should report here, where we will ask the court to possibly just warn, caution and discharge him. It’s a very minor allegation,” Sithole said.
The warrant follows Chatunga’s arrest on August 30 at a roadblock in Bubi, about 80 km north of Beitbridge.
He allegedly got into a scuffle with police officers, accusing them of delaying his journey to Harare.
