Secretaries-general of southern African former liberation movements are meeting in Victoria Falls, with deliberations on Western interference in the internal affairs of African nations taking centre stage.
The secretaries-generals present are from Zimbabwe’s Zanu PF, Botswana’s Democratic Party, Mozambique’s Frelimo, South Africa’s African National Congress, Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi, Angola’s People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola and Namibia’s South West Africa People’s Organisation.
Posting on X, Zanu PF director of information and publicity, Farai Marapira said that the convention of the sister parties places focus on a number of topics that affect the Southern African region, among them being neo-colonialism and the continued interference by western powers in African in-house matters.
“Cde Dr Obert Mpofu, today addresses the meeting of Secretaries-General of Former Liberation Movements in Victoria Falls. Core to deliberations are the continued interference of the West in the internal issues of Africa. How the yoke of subterfuge and neo colonialism still weighs heavy on our necks and how we must continue to strive to end it.”
“Only a united front of Liberators can ensure we see ourselves through to final success. This is indeed what meetings like this are about, to unite our efforts and ensure our vision is attained,” Marapira added.
Also posting on X, secretary-general of the ANC of South Africa, Fikile Mbalula confirmed their participation in the meeting, noting that he has led the ANC delegation to Victoria Falls.
“Today, I lead an ANC delegation to the 11th Meeting of Secretaries-General and Wings Of Liberation Movements of Southern Africa, at Elephant Hills Conference Centre, in Zimbabwe,” Mbalula said.
Mpofu leads the Zanu PF delegation at Victoria Falls and he said the parties represented brought about the independence of their respective people and countries through collective efforts, therefore that same collective approach should always guide and be kept.
“We are the parties that were instrumental in ending the subjugation of our people by the imperialist and bringing independence to our respective countries. It was a collective effort, and we should always act as a collective,” said Mpofu.
