Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change interim secretary-general Sengezo Tshabangu’s application to have recalled CCC MPs and councillors barred from participating in the December 9 by-elections will be heard on Wednesday at the Harare High Court.
Tshabangu in October, recalled 14 CCC legislators and more than 17 councillors, who will now be contesting for parliamentary seats in the upcoming December 9 by-elections under same party name.
Against this background, Tshabangu made an urgent chamber application seeking to block all recalled lawmakers from campaigning or contesting under the party’s name.
Nelson Chamisa's CCC successfully applied for the jointer. Tshabangu’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole confirmed that the case will be heard tomorrow.
“The reason why this matter was not heard yesterday is because there is a party that also calls itself CCC,” Sithole said.
“It asked for a jointer of which it was officially joined through a court order. So now, it’s going to be the respondent number 25. The matter is going to be heard tomorrow.”
In another case held in Bulawayo, CCC deputy spokesperson Gift “Ostallos” Siziba was cleared of charges of defacing his rival’s campaign posters.
“Finally free from concocted charges after the State withdrew its charges before plea. For the past five months, l have been in and out of the courts in Bulawayo for charges of crimes l did not commit. The abuse of the criminal justice delivery system to pursue some of us who differ with the regime is sad. We fight on,” Siziba said.
