Woman strikes hubby with cup over lover’s text message

A Beitbridge woman who struck her husband with a cup after reading a text message from an alleged lover telling him to settle a lodging bill has been freed by magistrate Vavariro Gabi.

Nomathemba Mpofu, 30, of Medium Density suburb in Beitbridge was set free after her husband, Tinashe Mukweva’s plea.

Mukweva said the couple has two young children who need their mother’s care and pleaded with magistrate Gabi to remove the matter from the roll.

Mpofu told the court that her husband was in the habit of coming home late and allegedly seeing other women. She said in this incident, she got angry after reading a message telling her husband to settle a lodging bill.

Circumstances are that last Saturday, Mukweva arrived home around 5pm and retired to bed.

Mpofu went through his phone and saw a text message telling him to settle a lodging bill. She woke him up and struck him three times with a cup on the face and head.

Mukweva reported the matter at ZRP Beitbridge, who referred him to Beitbridge District Hospital for a medical examination.
