10 years jail time each for armed robber duo

A magistrate has sentenced two armed robbers to 10 years each in prison.

Shadreck Chibvongodze (26) and Charlington Timba (37) from Overspill, Epworth, were convicted of armed robbery and possessing stolen property.

Prosecutor Mr Shepherd presented his case saying in November last year Chibvongodze, Timba and two accomplices still at large got a lift in a silver Chevrolet Avro.

The driver was travelling from the central business district to Highfield and he gave the four a ride.

When they reached Mangwende Drive near Machipisa Shopping Center, Timba indicated that he had reached his drop off point.

When the driver stopped, Chibvongodze held him by the neck. Timba and the other two assisted him to drag the driver into the back.

The quartet took the complainant’s three mobile phone handsets and US$135 cash.

They drove off with the complainant in the car and then dumped

him along Amalinda Road in Glen View before driving off.

Chibvongodze and Timba were arrested in Zinyengere, Epworth, in June this year while in possession of spare vehicle parts of the stolen vehicle.

Property valued at US$1 000 was recovered from the total value of US$6 000 worth of stolen goods.

Armed robbery incidents have been making headlines over the past few years with police managing to make arrests in most cases.

A suspect in the recent Koala Park USD 30 thousand heist recently appeared in court. A few weeks ago, police in Mashonaland west arrested 11 out of a 12-member gang that had been terrorising the province.
