An Uzumba man, who killed another man for proposing love to his married sister, has been denied bail.
Tichaona Nyauyanga, 46, of Uzumba appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of murder.
The State, through Zororai Nkomo, alleges that, on April 7, 2022, at around 0700 hours, the now deceased, Ostain Kachuwa, 61, was at his homestead in Munemo Village, Chief Nyajina, Uzumba, drinking beer called chikokiyana at Ndaizivei Gwashavanhu homestead with Munyaradzi Ndabva and Proceed Chirema.
While drinking their beer, at around 1100 hours, Chirema left the place intending to go to Harare and Nyauyanga arrived moments after joining Kachuwa, Ndabva and other imbibers.
There was an altercation between Kachuwa, Ndabva, and Nyauyanga about Kachuwa who had proposed love to Nyauyanga's sister who happened to be Ndabva’s wife.
Later during the day around 1200 hours, Ndabva left the homestead intending to go to Harare with his daughter for holiday.
On the same day at around 1500 hours Nyauyanga and Kachuwa left Ndaizivei's homestead together going to the direction of Nyauyanga’s home.
Nyauyanga allegedly pushed Kachuwa into the river at around 1830 hours.
Ellen Muteyo heard the voice of Ndabva shouting for help from the direction of Chenjera River.
From that day Nyauyanga was never seen in Matengambiri Village, Chief Nyajina, Uzumba until he was arrested on May 10, 2023 while staying with other relatives in Mukariro Village in Uzumba.
When Nyauyanga left his homestead, his wife and kids also relocated to an unknown destination.
On April 9, 2022, at around 1100 hours, Ndabva’s body was found floating in Chenjera River, Munemo Village, Uzumba.
On April 13, 2022, a post mortem that was conducted on the remains of Ndabva concluded that the cause of death was through drowning.
Mangosi remanded Nyauyanga to May 26. He advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
