Zimbabwe has recorded a cumulative 76 cholera cases across the country since the outbreak of the diarrhoeal disease in February.
The first case was recorded in Chegutu, Mashonaland West.
According to the cholera situational analysis report by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, out of 404 suspected cases, the country has confirmed 76 cases of them so far.
“As of 10 April 2023, 11 cases are hospitalised,” said the ministry.
“These are admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital (6) in Matabeleland South, Mutare city (1), Mutare rural (1), Chimanimani District (1) in Manicaland Province, and Bikita District (1) in Masvingo Province.”
The report also says two confirmed and five suspected deaths from cholera have been recorded to date.
The country’s 17 cholera hotspot districts have been identified as Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi, Harare, Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe Shamva, Mutare, Murehwa, Mwenezi, Seke, and Wedza.
Government is conducting community awareness activities while health workers have also been sensitised on the dreaded disease that killed over 4 000 between 2008 and 2009.
