Using Large packaging for fake cement has made an Epworth man pay dearly as he has been taken to court.

Knowledge Fochita, 39, of Domboramwari, in Epworth appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of fraud.

The State alleges that, in September 2022, Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe Limited (now Khaya Cement) received numerous complaints about the quality of their cement from various customers.

In February, 2022, Lafarge then discovered that the company had lost a significant number of packaging bags from its storeroom.

The Lafarge instituted investigations through the use of informers in efforts to find out the persons who were selling fake cements using Lafarge packaging.

On February, 17, 2023 at around 1830 hours, they received a call informing them that Trymore Masungise and Partmore Musiwa Damba were using Lafarge cement packaging bags to pack cement like products at corner ED Mnangagwa and Poland Road, Glen Lorne and selling the cement.

The Lafarge reacted, together with police officers from ZRP Headlands, and arrested the first two accused people and recovered 29 packaging bags of Lafarge cement which were identified as part of the stolen property.
