A 30-year-old man from Greenhill suburb in Bulawayo, Takudzwa Madzirashe, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa facing two counts of physical abuse and assault.
Madzirashe stabbed his wife, Listen Dube, 26, with a kitchen knife on the right hand after she tried to save her three-year-old daughter who was being beaten by her father.
He pleaded guilty to the two counts and was remanded to today for sentencing.
It is alleged that around 5am on February 14, Madzirashe came home and upon his arrival, he attempted to awaken his daughter to no avail.
He was angered and slapped the three-year-old.
Dube, seeing that her daughter was being assaulted, quickly took the child to prevent her from being further assaulted.
This, however, did not go down well with her husband, who violently grabbed her before he pushed her against the wall.
Madzirashe stabbed her once on the right arm before she escaped.
Dube reported the matter to the police, leading to Madzirashe's arrest while his wife was referred to hospital for treatment.
