Under-23 Young Warriors head coach Marc Sanchez has praised the talent, commitment and attitude within his squad, but his preparations for the upcoming AFCON U-23 qualifier against Mauritius have been limited by his involvement with the senior Warriors.
Sanchez was in Morocco with the senior national team, where he has been serving as Warriors head coach Ramon Catala’s first assistant and interpreter. At the same time, the Under-23 side has been in Harare preparing for their crucial encounter against Mauritius on 30 September.
The situation left Sanchez with limited time to work directly with the Under-23 players ahead of the qualifier. He returned after the Warriors’ match against Sierra Leone, leaving him with very little time to focus exclusively on the Under-23 team and complete preparations for the Mauritius encounter.
Despite the limited preparation time, Sanchez has expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the players and the work being done by the technical staff.
“We are so happy with the guys. We think we have very talented players and I am enjoying a lot training them,” Sanchez said.
The coach also praised his technical staff for their commitment and the way they have handled the players during the preparations.

“I think also we have a very good staff. I'm so happy with the staff, how they are working, how they are treating the players,” he said.
Sanchez believes the players have responded positively to the demands of the programme, with their willingness to learn and improve being central to the team's development.
“The players have a very good predisposition. They are trying to improve and they are trying to have the best performance and develop as much as we can,” he added.
The Under-23 programme is also designed to serve as a pathway into the senior national team, with Sanchez identifying the promotion of young talent as one of his key objectives.
“Our objective, our goal is to put as many players as we can from that team into the senior team in the next years,” he said.
