Legendary former Dynamos captain Murape Murape and Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz both believe debutants Scottland FC are ready to make a big splash in their first-ever CAF Champions League campaign.
Murape knows what it takes to succeed in Africa, having reached the 1998 final and 2008 semi-finals with Dynamos. He is confident the ambitious club has built the right team to go far in the tournament.
"They have put together a strong squad with a great mix of experienced players and hungry talent," said Murape. "The financial backing they have will definitely help them on this journey. Owner Pedzisai Sakupwanya is deeply passionate about football, and his investment in this African dream shows they are on the right track."
Reflecting on his own playing days, Murape warned that success on the continent requires far more than just skill on the pitch.
"Every time I see a local club prepare for Africa, the memories come flooding back. I don't just see matches,I remember the hostile away crowds, brutal travel schedules, and mind games that define African football.
"The mind games start the moment you land at the airport. Every away game tests your mentality as much as your talent. As a youngster, I learned that skill isn't enough. Later as captain, I realized leadership is all about keeping cool under pressure when everything is stacked against you."

Murape’s optimism is shared by Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The French manager tipped Scottland FC to cause upsets when the tournament starts in September, praising their style of play.
“Depending on the draw, I think this team can go far. They are very comfortable on the ball and keep possession well.”
Scottland FC recently lost 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in a pre-season friendly, but Murape believes playing against elite opposition is the best preparation they could ask for.
"African football is won or lost on tiny mistakes one error can knock you out. That is why a narrow 1-0 loss to a big club like Kaizer Chiefs is more valuable than an easy win. Testing your squad depth and feeling the fast pace of top-level football gives you an education you can't get in training."
Murape believes Scottland FC's rise comes at a crucial time for the local game, but warned that the real work starts now.
"Zimbabwean football is at a crossroads. If we want long-term success in Africa, our clubs must embrace full professionalism, proper player development, and modern sports science.
"Scottland FC earned their spot among Africa's best. Now, the real test begins. Welcome to the CAF Champions League."
