A Border Timbers Limited storeman has been sentenced to an effective 12 months in prison after being convicted of stealing 10,000 litres of diesel worth US$17,782 by manipulating company records.
Munashe Marimudzi (25) was convicted of fraud by the Mutare Magistrates’ Court after evidence showed that he altered fuel issue vouchers and entered fictitious transactions into the company’s Syspro inventory management system to conceal the missing fuel.
The State alleged that between January and August 2025, Marimudzi manipulated diesel issue documents and created false electronic transactions.
The fraud was uncovered in July 2025 when Border Timbers management detected irregularities while reviewing its Daily Combined Power Report, which tracks diesel consumption by generators against electricity usage.

An internal investigation reportedly uncovered altered fuel issue documents, prompting the company to commission a forensic audit and report the matter to police.
The audit established that 10,000 litres of diesel had gone missing from the company’s stores.
It also found that Marimudzi could not account for a further 3,303.60 litres valued at US$4,492.90.
The court sentenced him to 48 months in prison, with 12 months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
A further 24 months were suspended on condition that he pays restitution to Border Timbers.
Marimudzi will serve an effective 12 months in prison.
