Shurugwi North legislator Joseph Mpasi is yet to fulfil promises he made to Shurugwi FC following the club’s promotion to the Central Region Soccer League Division One, six months after publicly pledging support to the team.
Shurugwi FC secured promotion into the highly competitive Central Region Division One league after winning the ZIFA Midlands Province Division Two title in 2025.
During the club’s trophy handover ceremony held in December last year, Mpasi promised to assist the team with tracksuits for players and part of the club’s affiliation fees.
“As the father of the constituency, I will buy the players some tracksuits which they will be wearing going for their games,” Mpasi said during the celebrations.

However, the promises remain unfulfilled, with the club confirming that it has not received any of the pledged support.
The club chairman said the legislator had not yet delivered on the commitments made to the team.
“He hasn’t delivered anything from what he promised. Maybe he is still occupied with something though he is a busy man,” said the chairman.
The development has drawn criticism from some football supporters in Shurugwi, who say the situation reflects the unfulfilled promises often associated with politicians.
Meanwhile, Shurugwi FC is enduring a difficult start to life in Division One and is battling relegation.
In nine matches played so far, the club has managed just one victory, two draws and six defeats, leaving the team struggling near the bottom of the league table.
