
Three Harare men have appeared in court after police allegedly recovered hundreds of bottles of codeine-based cough syrups and other unregistered medicines during separate operations in the capital.
Lucky Kunaka (38), Alfonse Vengai Kumbirai Mushanawani and Godknows Garaise (21) appeared before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa facing charges related to the unlawful possession of unregistered and prohibited medicines.
The trio was remanded in custody and is expected to apply for bail this week.
According to the State, police acting on information received conducted a raid at Kunaka's residence in Kuwadzana 1 in the early hours of May 23.
Officers allegedly searched his room and recovered 144 bottles of 100ml Astra Pain cough syrup containing codeine phosphate and 24 bottles of 100ml Benylin with codeine. Kunaka was arrested at the scene.

In a separate case, police allegedly received information on May 21 that Mushanawani was distributing dangerous drugs and unregistered medicines from a black Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
Officers reportedly located the vehicle parked at N. Richards Shopping Centre in Westlea and carried out a search after identifying themselves.
The search allegedly yielded 400 bottles of 100ml BronCleer cough syrup, 120 bottles of 100ml Astra Pain and US$2 932 suspected to be proceeds from the illegal sale of the medicines.
Police seized the vehicle, medicines and cash before arresting Mushanawani.
In the third matter, police allegedly searched Garaise's residence in Kuwadzana 1 on May 23 following a tip-off.
The search reportedly led to the recovery of 22 bottles of 100ml Benylin with codeine, resulting in his arrest.
The cases are pending.
