Ethel Chinyerere Eyes European Move After Joining Green Buffaloes Women FC

Former Chapungu Queens striker and Mighty Warriors forward Ethel Chinyerere has set her sights on an international breakthrough following her move to Zambian side Green Buffaloes Women FC, declaring her ambition to eventually play in Europe or Asia.

The prolific striker, popularly nicknamed “Haaland” for her clinical finishing ability, recently signed a one-year contract with the Lusaka-based club as she continues to expand her professional career beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

Chinyerere said the move represents an important stepping stone toward achieving her long-term football dream.

“My goal is to play outside Africa, whether in Europe or Asia,” she said.

The forward arrives in Zambia following an impressive campaign in the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier League, where she scored 18 goals and established herself among the league’s most consistent attacking threats.

“Scoring goals is my work. I had to deliver so that I help my team achieve better results,” she added.

Chinyerere’s football journey began in 2013 with Chapungu Queens before she moved to Herentals Queens in 2017. She returned to Chapungu in 2020, continuing to demonstrate leadership and consistency while strengthening her reputation as one of Zimbabwe’s leading women’s football talents.

During her time at Chapungu, she helped the club secure five trophies and collected several individual honours. In 2022, she was crowned Top Goal Scorer, underlining her growing influence in domestic women’s football.

The 2024 season proved particularly successful, as she claimed both the Top Goal Scorer and Player of the Heart Tournament awards. She also earned the September FUZ Player of the Month honour and was named COSAFA Player of the Match following Zimbabwe’s encounter against Lesotho.

Despite her rising profile, Chinyerere says discipline and hard work remain central to her progress.

“Train hard to play easy,” she said, a philosophy she believes continues to shape her development as she pursues football opportunities on the global stage.
