Kwekwe United brace for tough Sabi Mine clash

Kwekwe United remain outside the top three of the Central Region Soccer League after four matches, sitting in sixth place with two wins, one draw and one defeat.

Following a goalless draw against Shabanie Mine FC on Wednesday, Kwekwe United have now turned their attention to a crucial encounter against Sabi Mine FC scheduled for Sunday in Zvishavane.

Head coach Tendai Chikuni expects a difficult contest, acknowledging that their opponents have already analyzed their recent performance.

“It won’t be an easy game. They are also aiming for the championship just like us, so winning this match is very important if we are to move into the top three,” said Chikuni.

“I saw their technical team watching our game against Shabanie Mine, which means they will be well prepared for us, but we are going to apply different tactics,” he added.

Chikuni has a proven track record in the division, having guided Shabanie Mine to promotion in 2016 before helping TelOne FC bounce back to the top flight after relegation in 2019. Now in charge of Kwekwe United, who were relegated in 2025, he is aiming to repeat the same success.

Meanwhile, Sabi Gold Mine FC are also pushing for promotion but come into the match following a narrow 1-0 defeat in a previously abandoned fixture.

Their head coach, Khumbulani Msendeki, was unhappy with the outcome of their last match.

“I can’t say we lost to Gwanda Pirates, we were robbed to be honest,” he said.

“Going into the game against Kwekwe United, we are ready for a good fight,” he added.
