Six Family Members Killed in Harare–Masvingo Road Horror Crash Identified

 

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the identities of six people who died in a tragic road traffic accident along the Harare–Masvingo Road earlier this week.

In a statement issued on April 3, police confirmed that the fatal crash occurred on April 2 at around 0950 hours at the 246-kilometre peg near Masvingo after a Toyota Corolla vehicle collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz truck.

“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s post on X platform regarding a fatal road accident which occurred on 02nd April 2026 at around 0950 hours at the 246-kilometre peg along Harare-Masvingo Road, Masvingo in which six people were killed after a Toyota Corolla vehicle and a Mercedes Benz truck collided head-on,” police said.

Authorities identified the victims as members of the same family from Tynwald North, Harare.

Those who lost their lives are Lilian Maranda Mujuru (40), Nokutenda Mujuru (15), Makanaka Mujuru (13), Ronald Junior Mujuru (11), Rufaro Shalom Mujuru (7), and Kayden Mujuru (3).

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the victims who were identified by their next of kin as listed,” the statement read.

Police extended condolences to the bereaved family while urging motorists to exercise caution during the holiday period.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police extends deepest condolences to the family of the victims. We appeal to drivers to seriously consider road safety while moving on the country’s roads this Easter and Independence holidays,” the police said.

The accident adds to growing concern over road safety on major highways, particularly during peak travel periods when traffic volumes increase across the country.

 Authorities continue to urge motorists to observe speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and ensure vehicles are roadworthy to prevent further loss of life.
