The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative, Miranda Tabifor, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) CEO, Marlene Gadzirayi, to discuss potential avenues for collaboration between the two organizations.
The meeting highlighted the transformative role of sport as a platform for advocacy and social change. Discussions focused on how strategic partnerships could leverage sporting activities to raise awareness and drive action against pressing social issues, including child marriages, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence. These initiatives are closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those promoting gender equality and youth empowerment.
Both Tabifor and Gadzirayi emphasized the importance of using sport as a vehicle for social transformation, fostering safe and inclusive environments where young people can thrive. The collaboration aims to empower youth, strengthen community engagement, and create sustainable programs that champion social responsibility through athletics.
