One Dead, One Injured in Aircraft Crash in Zaka

 

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed that one person was killed and another injured after a light aircraft crashed in Zaka, Masvingo Province, on Saturday.

In a statement released on March 16, police said the crash occurred on March 15 at around 11:00 am at Nyoka Village.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms an aircraft crash which occurred on 15th March 2026 at around 1100 hours at Nyoka Village, Zaka, Masvingo Province,” police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said.

According to the police, the aircraft had two occupants on board when it went down before being engulfed by flames.

“One person was killed while another person was injured when an aircraft carrying two occupants crashed before being engulfed by fire,” Nyathi said.

Police indicated that the aircraft had been travelling from Komani Aerodrome in Mount Hampden, Harare, to Chipinda Pools when it reportedly developed a mechanical problem during the flight.

“The aircraft, which was travelling from Komani Aerodrome in Mt Hampden, Harare to Chipinda Pools, had reportedly developed a mechanical fault and began emitting an unusual sound,” Nyathi said.

Authorities say investigations are now underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police and relevant authorities are investigating circumstances surrounding the crash. More details will be released in due course,” Nyathi added.

The injured occupant was reportedly rushed for medical attention while police and aviation authorities continue examining the crash site.
