Kelis Ndhlovu has been ruled out of the third and final One-Day International against the New Zealand women's national cricket team after suffering a concussion during the second match of the series in Dunedin.
The Zimbabwe women's national cricket team opening batter sustained the injury on Sunday when she was struck on the head by a short-pitched delivery from New Zealand pacer Bree Illing while attempting to duck under a bouncer in the seventh over of Zimbabwe’s innings.
Despite wearing a helmet, the ball struck Ndhlovu on the head and she collapsed immediately after the impact, prompting urgent medical attention on the field. She was later transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further assessment after briefly losing consciousness.
Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
“Zimbabwe Women opening batter Kelis Ndhlovu has been ruled out of the third and final One-Day International against New Zealand Women after suffering a concussion during the second match of the series in Dunedin on Sunday,” the board said.

Medical examinations confirmed that Ndhlovu had suffered a concussion, although an MRI scan later showed there was no skull fracture. She received treatment and was subsequently discharged from hospital.
Zimbabwe Cricket added that the 20-year-old returned for a follow-up examination on Tuesday morning, where further tests confirmed there were no additional complications. However, she will remain under medical observation as she continues her recovery while taking prescribed medication.
At the time of the incident, Ndhlovu had shared a 25-run opening partnership with teammate Modester Mupachikwa before the blow forced her out of the match.
Zimbabwe Women have already conceded the three-match series after losing the opening two matches, with the final ODI scheduled to start at midnight Zimbabwe time.
