AfDB Pledges Expanded Support for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe’s cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB) is set to deepen following the arrival of the institution’s new Country Manager, Eyerusalem Fasika, who has outlined an expanded framework of support aligned with national development priorities and economic reforms.

Fasika said the Bank remains committed to supporting the Government and the people of Zimbabwe, particularly through the ongoing arrears clearance and debt resolution process. She said the AfDB’s engagement will continue to back reforms aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and rebuilding international confidence.

She stated that the Bank’s support is aligned with Zimbabwe’s National Development Strategy 2, the AfDB Ten-Year Strategy and its four cardinal priority areas, which guide investments across the continent.

These focus on fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development.

She also noted that the Bank’s support framework is aligned with Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring Zimbabwe’s development efforts remain integrated with continental and global aspirations.

She said the AfDB is reviewing its previous country engagement report, which will inform the next three-year strategy and guide expanded collaboration designed to deliver measurable impact for Zimbabweans.
