Hurungwe Woman Convicted for Secret Burial of Stillborn Twins

 

 

A 43-year-old Hurungwe woman, Angela Madzvimbo, has been convicted and sentenced by the Karoi Magistrates’ Court for concealing the birth of her twin infants.

The bodies of the stillborn twins were discovered buried in a shallow grave near her homestead, sparking outrage within the community.

On January 2, 2026, Madzvimbo left her home claiming she was going to look for mushrooms in a nearby bush but returned later that day no longer pregnant, raising suspicions among villagers.

When questioned by the village head and community members, she admitted to giving birth to the twins and burying their bodies without reporting the incident to the authorities.

The infants’ bodies were exhumed and taken to hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Madzvimbo was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, with three months suspended, and the remaining three months suspended on condition that she completes 105 hours of community service.
