The Deputy Head of Founders High School, Nkosana Mlibazi, and a local contractor, Lazarus Moyo, have been convicted of fraud involving US$600 raised during the 2024 COSSASA Games hosted by the school.
Appearing before the Tredgold Magistrates’ Court, Mlibazi and Moyo, together with Moyo’s company, Lazaco Engineers (Pvt) Ltd, were found guilty of diverting funds through fraudulent quotations and receipts falsely indicating that Lazaco Engineers had supplied materials and carried out repair work.
The court heard that between August and September 2024, the school generated US$16 070 from hosting the games.
Mlibazi, who had been entrusted with managing the funds, colluded with Moyo to siphon US$600 by submitting false documentation.

Investigations, however, revealed that no such work had been undertaken. Instead, a school caretaker independently purchased and installed the required equipment.
The fraudulent paperwork was later submitted to school authorities in an attempt to conceal the deception, resulting in financial prejudice to the institution.
Mlibazi and Moyo were each sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment. Two months were suspended for five years, while another two months were suspended on condition they pay a US$200 fine and US$200 in restitution.
The remaining four months were suspended on condition that they complete 140 hours of community service.
Lazaco Engineers (Pvt) Ltd was fined US$200 and also ordered to pay US$200 in restitution.
