Chitungwiza Municipality has announced a temporary grace period for businesses to renew expired licences or submit new licence applications, giving operators until January 13, 2026 to comply.
In a notice dated 5 January 2026, Acting Town Clerk Japson Nemuseso said the extension was introduced to allow council to finalise administrative processes tied to new business licensing and registration procedures.
According to the municipality, the changes are being implemented in line with a Cabinet directive aimed at standardising business licensing and registration across local authorities.

Nemuseso assured businesses that no penalties or enforcement actions would be taken against operators with expired licences during the grace period. However, he warned that normal enforcement would resume immediately after the deadline.
“All business operators are strongly advised to regularise their licensing status before 13 January 2026,” Nemuseso said.
The municipality said the extension is meant to give businesses adequate time to comply while council completes the transition to the new licensing framework.
