The incident is said to have occurred on October 16, 2025, at around 2:30pm along Market Street in Eastlea, Harare.
According to the State, the complainant, Richard Kanhema, 35, was driving in the area when he noticed a vehicle parked by the roadside which he suspected belonged to Paureni, a man he had previously reported to the police on allegations of fraud.

Kanhema reportedly approached the vehicle to confirm the driver’s identity and signalled for Paureni to roll down the window. However, instead of complying, Paureni allegedly accelerated the vehicle, hitting Kanhema, who landed on the bonnet.
The court heard that the accused continued driving with the complainant clinging to the moving vehicle before Kanhema eventually fell off and hit the ground.
Kanhema sustained injuries to his head, both hands, knees and shoulders. The accused is alleged to have driven away without rendering any assistance.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to Paureni’s arrest.
