A 28-year-old Harare man has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court after allegedly securing a US$2 500 loan using forged documents.
Peter Katiyo, of Southlea Park, is accused of approaching the complainant in January 2025 seeking a short-term loan.
The court heard that he was advised of the requirements, which included proof of residence, copies of a motor vehicle registration book, a shop licence, and an agreement of sale.
Katiyo allegedly went on to produce counterfeit copies of all the requested documents and submitted them to the complainant, falsely representing that he met the conditions for the loan.

Relying on this misrepresentation, the complainant reportedly handed over US$2 500 in cash, with the understanding that the amount would be repaid by the end of February 2025.
When the loan was not repaid, the complainant conducted verification checks and discovered that the documents provided were forged.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Katiyo’s arrest.
The complainant is said to have suffered a total prejudice of US$2 500. Katiyo is expected to return to court on Tuesday.
