A Dzivaresekwa teacher appeared in court yesterday facing charges of allegedly rɑping an 11-year-old pupil he had enrolled for extra lessons.
Alec Masomera, 56, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje and was remanded in custody to February 28 for trial commencement.
He was advised to approach the High Court for bail consideration.
It is the State’s case that in July last year, Masomera enrolled the girl, who is his neighbour, for extra lessons.
He allegedly started proposing to her but she refused.
On the day of the alleged rɑpe, the girl went back home after extra lessons and her grandmother told her to go back to Masomera to get assistance with homework.
When she went back, Masomera reportedly got into his bedroom and summoned the girl. He told her to sit on his bed before raping her.
Masomera allegedly raped the girl again the following day.
The girl’s aunt noticed the girl’s unusual behaviour and questioned her.
The girl then revealed her ordeal, leading to Masomera's arrest.
