Honorable Tatenda Mavetera, the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, has officially steered the nation’s postal sector into a digital-first era. Presiding over the belated World Postal Day commemorations in Nyamandlovu, the Minister combined the launch of high-tech communication platforms with grassroots community development, ensuring that Zimbabwe's postal services remain relevant in the 21st century.
At the heart of the celebrations was the launch of the SIGIJIMA chatbot and the official Zimpost mobile application. These tools represent a shift toward a paperless economy, allowing customers to track mail, send money, and access services from any mobile device. Minister Mavetera stated that these advancements are fundamental to the nation’s digital strategy.

"The launch of these services is in line with the government thrust for Postal Service Providers to digitalize and to be innovative," Minister Mavetera remarked. "The postal sector plays a pivotal role in our economy, and it is essential that we embrace innovation to improve efficiency and accessibility."
Recognizing the human element behind these technical shifts, the Minister also presided over a prize-giving ceremony for a letter-writing competition. Learners from various schools in Matabeleland North walked away with prizes including modern ICT equipment, cash, and certificates. This gesture aimed to ensure that young Zimbabweans are equipped with both traditional literacy and modern digital skills.
Beyond technology, the Minister prioritized the welfare of the most vulnerable members of the community. In anticipation of the festive season, Honorable Mavetera distributed Christmas food hampers to the elderly and people living with disabilities. She noted that development must be inclusive, ensuring that no one is left behind as the country moves forward.
The commemorations ended with a poignant tribute to the late Zimpost Board Chairman, Mr. Tawanda Zvobgo. Minister Mavetera led the sector in a minute of silence, honoring a leader whose vision laid the groundwork for the innovations unveiled today. Through this balance of technology and social responsibility, the event reaffirmed Zimpost’s position as a vital hub for both digital progress and community service.
