Palestinian Children in Crisis as Violence Continues

 

As Universal Children’s Day is observed around the world, officials in Palestine warn of an escalating humanitarian crisis facing the region’s youngest and most vulnerable. Local authorities report that the conflict, which intensified in 2023, has cost the lives of thousands of students, left tens of thousands injured, and inflicted lasting trauma on an entire generation.

According to Ambassador Tamer Almassri, hundreds of  schools, kindergartens, early-childhood centers, nurseries, and playgrounds in Gaza and the West Bank have been destroyed or damaged, disrupting education and leaving families without safe spaces for their children.

Amid renewed tensions, Ambassador Tamer Almassri condemned recent Israeli attacks across Gaza, saying they have killed at least 19 Palestinians and injured dozens more. He denounced the strikes as “a flagrant violation of ceasefire agreements” and added that Israel “keeps piling misery upon the lives of displaced Palestinians with winter around the corner.”

Almassri emphasized  that 280 people have been killed and 672 injured since the ceasefire agreement of October 11, 2023, bringing reported cumulative deaths since October 2023 to 69,513. Urged the international community to take action, stating that those responsible “must be held accountable” for the ongoing suffering.
