Harare’s city authorities have raised concern after confirming “501 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease”, with most infections detected in “Mabvuku, Mbare, Budiriro and Waterfalls.” The outbreak is mainly affecting children under the age of 10.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the City of Harare warned that HFMD is “highly contagious and spreads through direct contact with blisters or droplets from coughing and sneezing.”

The city further stated that “no deaths have been recorded” but encouraged anyone showing signs of infection to visit the nearest clinic or hospital.
Authorities also appealed to residents to “avoid direct contact with those showing symptoms” and to ensure children with signs of the disease receive prompt medical attention.
