Two men have been sentenced to an effective 51 months in prison each by the Karoi Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of multiple counts of unlawful entry and robbery committed during a six-week crime spree.
Knowledge Makiwa, 29, and Tinashe Colligen Mutinhima Zvikonyauiswa, 32, were found guilty following a full trial, with the court describing their actions as calculated, violent, and disruptive to public peace.
According to prosecutor Elson Chabarika, the duo committed their first offence on March 25, 2025, when they broke into a house in Karoi and stole five pairs of shoes and US$145 in cash.

Just six days later, on March 31, they escalated their crimes. Armed with a knife and a wheel spanner, they confronted a woman and her mother, threatening them with violence before making off with a 32-inch Samsung TV, groceries, a cellphone, and cash valued at US$600.
Their most brazen act occurred on May 6, 2025, when they broke into the teachers’ quarters at Nyambambizi Primary School. Using an iron bar to force entry, they stole a 50-inch Sharp LED TV, a laptop, and other electronics worth US$1,300.
Following a thorough police investigation, officers recovered several stolen items from the pair, including the two TVs, a wheel spanner, a black belt, an adaptor, and a pair of shoes. These recoveries played a key role in securing their conviction.
In passing sentence, the presiding magistrate condemned the repeat offences and the use of violence, stating that the community needed protection from such individuals. Both Makiwa and Zvikonyauiswa were sentenced to a total of 51 months’ effective imprisonment.
