State-owned telecommunications firm TelOne has rolled out a new digital calling platform, TelOne Connect, in a move aimed at modernising its voice service offering and tapping into shifting communication trends across Zimbabwe.
The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application allows customers to use their traditional landline numbers directly from smartphones or computers, enabling seamless calls over any available internet connection. TelOne says the upgrade responds to growing demand for cheaper and more versatile communication tools.
Launching the platform in the capital, Chief Executive Engineer Lawrence Nkala said the initiative reflects the company’s renewed focus on customer-centred innovation.
“We are moving Zimbabwean communication into its next phase,” Nkala said. “Our clients want affordability, clarity and reliability — this product is our commitment to deliver exactly that.”

Zimbabwe’s voice traffic continues to grow, with more than 4.2 billion minutes recorded in the first quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, as internet access expands beyond 30%, more users are exploring alternative calling options to manage rising costs.
TelOne Connect allows subscribers to place and receive calls through various devices using a single number. The app is available for download on both Android and iOS platforms and features contact syncing, device switching and enhanced security built on TelOne’s network systems.
Nkala said the app offers flexibility to households, students, small businesses and freelancers operating on tight budgets or with limited mobility. The company aims to activate 20,000 users by year-end, supporting a planned rise in network recharge activity from 3% to 8%.
He emphasised that the platform was developed locally and shaped by user feedback.
“This is a product built by Zimbabweans for Zimbabwe,” he said. “We want to ensure that no person and no community is excluded from digital communication opportunities.”
